How the Music Was Made

Susan Alexjander's album "Sequencia" may perhaps be the only musical album of its kind. Basing her songs' tunings on human DNA frequencies, she attempts to blend science and art in a meaningful and seamless way. In order to do so, however, so had to undergo quite an intensive process, different than any other musical recording process.

Combining Music and DNA

The original compositions on "Sequencia" are known for their use of tuning derived from the vibrational frequencies of DNA. The album itself is a Alexjander's acknowledgement of the link between use of science and art, as she takes electromagnetic frequencies found in the chemical bases of adenine, thymine, cytosine and guanine and translates them into sound through a DX Yamaha synthesizer and computer software. The acoustic instruments used were then tuned to the tones Alexjander created.

Despite the tremendous labor undergone to tune the compositions to DNA frequencies, "Sequencia" is meant for listeners to enjoy and appreciate without necessarily being aware of or understanding the scientific process used in its creation. The unprecedented album is the first and only of its kind.
