About the Composer Susan Alexjander

Susan Alexjander wears several hats. She is a composer, sound designer, educator, performer and radio producer. In addition, she holds a Masters degree in Music Composition and Theory from San Jose State University.
About Science and The Arts
Having taught at the university level, Susan Alexjander's compositions are performed throughout the United States and are often used as collaborations with dance and film. She is the company director of Science and The Arts, which conducts scientific research into the universe and its connection to music. The research explores a vibrationally connected universe and supports a holistic vision of creation. She is quoted as saying, "Nature is alive with macro/micro harmony. Rhythms of breath and heart, DNA, stars, water and Earth invite us into this dance of frequency." Following the advice of Thomas Carlyle, she has described her music as "nature-based."
"Sequencia"
Susan Alexjander's album "Sequencia" consists of original compositions scored for the violin, synthesizer, cello, tabla and voice. She uses a tuning system derived from frequencies of the following four bases of DNA: adenine, guanine, cytosine and thymine. Cell biologist and partner, David Deamer, supplied the DNA frequencies from his UCSC laboratory. The beautiful tunings are not mere demonstration music in any way. They are meant for enjoyment without any knowledge of the process of DNA-based tuning.
With her keen insight and talent, Susan Alexjander has changed the composition and theory of music. One critic hailed "Sequencia" as "the Grail Quest set to music, with beauty and power in it, great power."
